Goldfield Ghost Town Field Trip!

Today we spent a fun filled day at the Ghost Town! We learned a lot about Arizona's history related to gold mining and marveled at the Superstition Mountains! We toured the historic Mammoth Gold Mine, visited an exhibit of Sonoran desert reptiles, panned for gold, and took a ride on Arizona's only narrow gauge train! Thanks to all parents who drove and/or chaperoned the class!

Back in the 1890's Goldfield boasted 3 saloons, a boarding house, general store, blacksmith shop, brewery, meat market and a school house. Just when it looked like the town would outgrow Mesa, the vein faulted, the grade of ore dropped and the town died a slow painful death. It has now become a place where we can experience a ghost town rich in wild west history!

Ready to start our day!
